frequently asked questions re: workshops
Q) If I'm just starting out, what workshops should I look out for?
A) Look for Acting Storm 1 or Performers Studio 1. Remember that you can do a starting level course more than once - particularly if you want to perfect your skills.
Q) Do I have to audition to be in the workshops?
A) No, but sometimes auditions will be held for special projects.
Q) Are your workshops different from school drama?
A) Yes. Although we do teach skills we are more about experiencing and play. We are not following an education syllabus. St Martins' tutors are all practising professionals in the performing arts and they pass on to all our participants a professional level of skill, advice and experience of the theatre.
Q) I've done one introductory class, what should I do now?
A) Another one! Remember that only practice makes perfect and there are always things to learn in every class.
Q) Can I go into an older age group, even though I'm not quite the right age?
A) As a general rule, no. However if the tutor feels that you are ready to go up a class, they will let you and administration know. This situation is rare. Remember that older classes will be dealing with older issues and you may not enjoy being in a group with participants three or four years older than you are.
Q) Can I pay my course off throughout the term?
A) Sorry, no. St Martins has a small staff and we can't keep tabs on periodic payments. If you send in an incomplete payment both your payment and enrolment form will be returned to you. Remember, St Martins works on a "first come, first served" basis and you will not be enrolled unless full payment is received prior to the class.
Q) Can I come and experience a class to see if I like it?
A) You need to try out a full workshop term because one visit is not going to be enough to see if you will like it. Contact us at the office to find out when our next open day is.
Q) Where do St Martins tutors come from?
A) All St Martins tutors are working professional artists.
Q) When I become a member how soon do I start getting the discount on workshops?
A) Straight away. The first workshop you do with us includes membership. Membership is for a calendar year and finishes on 31 December of the current year. Membership also entitles you special prices to see our shows and a quarterly news letter. For more info click here.
