emerging playwright's competition

ages 13 to 17 & 18 to 25

The St Martins Emerging Playwrights’ Competition is open to all Australian playwrights aged 13 to 25. It’s a great way to get your work read by others in the industry who might be able to connect you up with other networks, regardless of whether you win or not. In 2008 there will be two categories, 13 to 17 and 18 to 25 years of age.

The winning entries will receive public readings and dramaturgical assistance. There is no constraint on the length, cast size or subject matter of entries.

All playwrights who choose to pay the dramaturgical fee will receive written feedback once the judging is concluded.

Competition opens: April 1
Competition closes: August 15, 2008

submitting scripts

All entries need to be submitted in hard copy. No email entries will be accepted.
All entries need to be accompanied by an official entry form. Download an entry form here, in pdf format or as a word document, or for enquiries and assistance contact us at the St Martins office.

All entries should be clearly marked with name, address, email and contact number.
Entries will only be returned if accompanied with a self addressed envelope.
Two copies of the script need to be provided, NOT bound or stapled. A bull clip is fine.

Terms and Conditions

• The play must be entirely the original work of the playwright(s), not an adaptation.
• The plays may be short or full length works, one act or two.
• There is no limit on cast size or subject matter.
• Entries should take into consideration that St Martins uses actor’s 5-25years. It may not be the best idea to submit a play best performed by those aged forty plus.
• The playwright(s) must be aged 25 and under at the close of competition (August 15th 2008).
  You may enter more than one play but each entry must be accompanied by a separate entry form.
• More than one playwright may work on one entry, however ALL playwrights must be aged 25 and under at the close of competition (August 15th 2008).
• The play may have been entered into previous competitions.
• Your entry must reach us or be postmarked no later than 5pm August 15th 2008.

Entries received after this WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

• The judges’ decisions will be final.
  
• Failure to comply with any of these conditions will result in your play not being considered eligible in the competition.
