The inaugural production by the new St Martins Mixed Abilities Ensemble; a group of young people with and without disabilities who have collaborated with members of rawcus. CHERISH is a one day only performance outcome of a eight week long workshop process which explored objects and things people cherish.

A collaboration between the multi award winning rawcus ensemble and St Martins funded by the City of Melbourne, this project is directed by Kate Sulan and Sarah Austin, sound design by Zoe Barrie and features lighting design by Richard Vabre.

Performed by St Martins and Rawcus Ensemble members.

THE THINGS THAT KEEP ME AWAKE AT NIGHT

June 18 & 19

Its pretty dark with the lights turned off. I can hear the creaks and groans outside the door. But I’m not scared or anything. I’m thinking about bushfires and I’m thinking about homework, and I’m thinking about how I’ll explain to Mum that I lost my school jumper when I left it on the bus.

A devised storytelling performance by St Martins youngest members (5-12 years). Featuring an animated set design, puppetry, live music, singing, dancing and inspired stories from a talented cast of young people.

Abby and Mira settle in for a less than exciting school holiday break, until they meet Gary and are enticed by his graphic novel The Dream Factory, a place where dreams are bought and sold. Reality and fantasy collide in a kaleidoscope of offbeat characters, surreal situations and catchy songs. Think it’s going to be the same old school holidays this September? Think again.

This year the  St Martins Creative Ensemble are creating works that respond to various locations around St Martins.

Curated by Sarah Austin, Hatched 2010 is a festival of ideas from the most exciting new theatre artists that Melbourne has to offer. Expect new performance art, cabaret characters, short plays, monologues, ghost tours, dinner parties, new music and much more. Works showcased in Hatched have developed to become  sold-out productions in the Fringe Festival, Midsumma, Next Wave and the Adelaide Fringe. Not your usual night out at the theatre and therefore not to be missed.

A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you the less you know -Diane Arbus

Taking the provocative photographs if Diane Arbus as a starting point emerging Melbourne writers Harley Hefford, Casey Nicholls and Louris van de Geer have created three new short plays that showcase their unique voices and incredible visions. Performed by the 2010 Performers Ensemble, these plays  give our extraordinary audition-based actors group a chance to really show what they are made of in their end of year showcase. A perfect way to end our 30th birthday year.
