HATCHED ‘11

Choose your own SUBLIME adventure

Usually theatre is on a stage.  Often there’s a script.  Sometimes you know what to expect. Often it drags on.  Never at HATCHED.

HATCHED transforms the entire St Martins complex into pockets of innovative performance. You’ll see Ethiopian circus, hear drunk Beethoven and taste Italian chocolate pudding.  Participate in the ultimate survey or explore a cave of 3000 plastic bags.   Witness dance with a difference, find out what librarians really fantasise about and get a searing insight into cultural misunderstandings, from the inside.

With Work By : Maysa Abouzeid, Thomas Banks, Rebekah Berger, Mattie Young, Timothy Jones, Teame Ersie , Patrick McCarthy, Georgia Mill, Anna van Veldhuisen, Saliah Siryon, Brienna Macnish, Joshua Lynzaat.

THE LOST GIRL

“ I dream I’m on a boat in the middle of a dark ocean and I can hear a trumpet playing. There are thousands of people on this boat. But none of them speak the same language as me.”

The stories of Australia’s lost children conjure images of a mystical, desolate and threatening landscape. Drawing inspiration from Brett Whiteley’s landscape paintings and reflecting on their own experiences of isolation,
St Martins teenage members devise and perform a stirring, original theatre project.

Led by Sarah Austin, THE LOST GIRL will be developed over Term 2 through a series of improvisation, storytelling, physical theatre, songwriting and singing techniques.
THE LOST GIRL will feature a projected set design, original live score and will be staged in the
Irene Mitchell Studio in the July school holidays.

CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT

Jill goes missing.
Zach needs to find her.
But how do you find someone when you’re becoming just another rat?
Blistering, poetic and bleakly hilarious, RAT is a play about being yourself against the grain of expectation.

This creative development showing, led by director Petra Kalive and emerging playwright Chris Summers (Winner of the 2008
St Martins Playwriting Competition), is an opportunity to hear the latest script, provide feedback and discuss design concepts as it moves towards 2012 production.
